    Rosa Circle of Serbian sisters This list is not final and our intention is to widen the membership by inviting and accepting new partners and interested stakeholders Based on our experience based on difficult transitional processes our wish is to provide support for the dignified life of the elderly while providing participation and input in policymaking and development Why did we form the Network Keeping in mind the awareness of the difficulties that the elderly face as well as the vulnerability of this social group our goals are to Lobby and advocate for the rights of the elderly at any relevant institution governmental body or media jointly target identified problems through coordinated action programs joint projects Motivate the elderly to actively participate in solving their own problems at the social scene The first joint initiatives HumanaS We have joined the initiative to define and adopt the national action plan on social care about social security and humanization of life conditions at the old age This plan will establish the long term strategy in all areas of public life and work that influences quality of life at the old age We have participated in the work of the National council for

    children and children with handicap dissemination of humanitarian right and principles of Red Cross motivation of the citizens for blood donation training for first aid search for the missing etc Apart from the mentioned the Red Cross activities involve organizing of soup kitchens joint development of the community and recovery of the socially vulnerable children in Baosici Actions such as Sunny autumn of life One package lots of love Package for newly born baby Red Cross Serbia is a member organization of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent and participates in regional and global initiatives and programs in all mentioned areas of its activities Projects for the elderly Program of support and care for the elderly is the biggest program of social and health protection implemented daily on the field by Red Cross Serbia It started in 2001 with pilot projects in Vojvodina to spread nowadays to more than half of the Serbian territory Currently it the program includes activities in 82 municipalities where Red Cross local branches with support of their volunteers and in participation of local communities and support of Red Cross Serbia Secretarial help the elderly citizens in need The aim of the project is to provide more pleasant dignified and healthier life to older people who are without family support do not receive any assistance and are in situation of social financial health or any other need postponing the need for their institutionalization and relocation from original home These persons are supported in daily activities their health care hygiene and high value nutrition maintaining social contacts and using own potentials to help themselves and others and lead fulfilled lives Around 1 766 volunteers and 160 professionals are involved in the Program for the elderly providing support and care to more than 11 000 elderly

    research on volunteering among older people was that volunteering decreasing risk of depression and cardio vascular diseases 30 09 2011 Self help groups In the scope of the IPA project Older people civil society Dialogue in Western Balkan which is being implemented in Serbia Bosnia and Herzegovina and Albania one of the key activities is the development of self help groups for older people The aim of the self help groups is to motivate and empower the older people so they are able to raise and tackle issues that are of their concern and try to suggest possible solutions in their own local communities In Serbia Red Cross of Serbia and the HumanaS network initiated and provide assistance to 48 older people self help groups in 27 municipalities with approximately 460 members These groups are functioning in different social and geographical context rural and urban areas In some cases group members come from different ethnic background and in most cases they come from different social and educational background On the average groups have two meetings per month but some groups have weekly meetings Most frequent issues that are discussed on the meetings are health related problems prices of prescribed medications but also the question of the list of medications that are covered by public health insurance fund Other topics of interest for them are the pension system inadequate social welfare financial support and the issue of poverty in the old age 17 06 2011 15 June 2011 The World Elder Abuse Awareness Day On June 15th 2011 at 12 o clock in the festive hall of the Red Cross of Serbia Simina 19 a meeting was organised under the title my world your world our world a world without elder abuse on the occasion of the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day This meeting is a continuation of efforts to improve the situation of elderly and to decrease discrimination neglect abuse and violence against elderly The meeting was opened by the Secretary General of the Red Cross of Serbia Ms Vesna Milenovic and the State Secretary from the Ministry of labour and social affairs Mr Zoran Martinovic At the gathering results of the survey entitled Violence against elderly in a family context were presented by the trustee for the protection of equality Prof dr Nevena Petrusic the survey was part of the IPA project Dialogue of civil society organisations on the matter of elderly in the western Balkans The survey gathered and analysed data relating to reported cases of violence against elderly people in their family in Nis and Novi Sad by obtaining information from the police stations and social welfare centres in those cities Case studies covered two cases each that had been processed as violence against elderly people which ended in court The aim of the survey is to identify problems in the functioning of existing mechanisms of legal protection in the family and of providing psycho social support to victims of violence Recommendations of the efficient functioning of

    to choose and rights to lead dignified lives to have economic and social security to have adequately paid jobs to be educated to enjoy more affordable and efficient medical and social care In present political and social circumstances of the transition process in Serbia especially vulnerable groups of women are the women in rural areas Owing to this women association Rosa focused its activities on identification of these vulnerable groups and on organization of help and support to them i e they especially engaged their resources in creating and implementing the activities which promote basic human rights of the old women and women with special needs in rural areas The existing civil organizations dealing with protection of women s human rights are mostly oriented towards economic and political emancipation of women sexual and family violence and sex trafficking problems in Serbia and Balkans Problems of protection and improvement of human rights of women in rural areas especially of vulnerable women groups still remain marginalized in actual projects of civil sector organizations dealing with similar problems as well as in other governmental development projects Due to this founders of NGO Rosa all the professionals working in human development health and social policy of aging decided to give priority to promotion of basic human rights of the women in rural area especially the rights to medical and social security of old women women refuges and invalid women Our activities aim to raise public awareness towards this problem and to initiate a network on local level which would be devoted to these problems and would provide actual service and support Long term goal is to influence the public opinion and local political and economic institutions to include the needs of vulnerable women groups in rural areas into development processes The organization is facing

    shoes hygiene items sometimes of food books and similar all in accordance with previously collected data on needed kinds of help gathered from the consultancy centers for the old Consultancy centers are open once a week offering various kinds of aid legal advising medical advising measurement of blood pressure popular lecturing etc Providing of support and companionship is done throughout the year but is intensified during holidays and in early summer through organized excursions and sometimes visits to the theatres Some other kind of assistance are randomly organized such as making contacts with doctors and other institutions and services short daily walks library services providing medical therapy in accordance to doctor s prescriptions but in very small range in relation to MOKA s capacities We are especially engaged in finding lonely incapable old persons having in mind that they are in greatest need for help We are receiving data from Red Cross municipal offices and geronto housewifes In respect to the existing old age programs our activities are very complementary At the end of each year we organize professionally organized panel discussions dedicated to old people s needs and problems They are very useful for timely and adequate aid as
