    PROJECTS Days of Banica In the period from 09th until the 11th of August 2013 the municipality Bela Palanka organized Gastro tourism event Days of banica 2013 The three day event drew thousands of visitors and over 100 competitors on a vast number of stalls selling and advertising character The event attracted a private entrepreneurs and caterers as well as numerous associations presented their specialties and works Aassociation Djurdjevdan took part at the event and with guests from the Association of Women Ternipe from Pirot decorating a stand with handiwork of its members and guest members Association Djurdjevdan has exhibited the works of elderly Roma women developed within the project Inclusion of Roma Elders through Community Based Activities funded by the German Foundation EVZ Remembrance Responsibility Future as a partner of the International Consortium for Solidarity ICS Nis Elderly Roma women in the past through socializing at the club made ornaments from wool embroidery thread and crochet Handicrafts have attracted great attention of the visitors of the Days of Banica and special guests from the Bulgarian town of Etropole Educational and recreational programme for refugee ID and Roma children Humanitarian and social programme for Romas victims of the nazi persecution

    projects implemented by ICS in Southeastern Serbia Skill development and recreational activities were organised in 20 collective centres for the accommodation of refugees tailoring hairdressing carpentry sports vegetable growing cooking art ceramics computer courses foreign language classes accounting C category driving license etc Since 1999 following the NATO intervention in Serbia the programme was reshaped to integrate the newly arrived internally displaced from Kosovo into it and to answer their specific needs The programme is still on going in 9 municipalities Nis Niska Banja Aleksinac Svrljig Gadzin Han Leskovac Vranje Kursumlija and Bela Palanka in cooperation with the local partners Nova Nis and The Society of the Development of Creativity Aleksinac It caters for almost 1 000 refugee and ID children and elderly offering not only regular weekly activities in workshops but also ad hoc events such as outings shows concerts exhibitions visits to historical sights Zoo etc Since the beginning of 2003 the programme has a component which is specifically designed for internally displaced and local Roma children and adolescents These are primarily educational activities which are implemented in cooperation with the local partners Roma NGOs The activities include pre school preparation of Roma children the compensatory programme for Roma school children literacy classes and preparation for the enrolment in regular school of those Roma children who have never attended school the vocational training of Roma adolescents who either did not start secondary school or have dropped out of the final grades of the primary school Apart from these activities ICS supported the organisation of seminars for the teachers in the schools with a significant number of Roma school children so that they could acquire the knowledge necessary for a successful work with Roma children The partners of ICS in this programme are The Association of Roma Students Novi

    Bujanovac and provided the assistance and support for 900 beneficiaries Since 1 October 2003 the programme has been extended by one year and one more municipality was included Leskovac The number of beneficiaries rose to 1 300 The next project extension by seven more months ensued on 1 October 2004 In the municipalities Vranjska Banja Vranje and Bujanovac ICS directly implements the project while in the other municipalities it cooperates with the local partners on its implementation Social clubs founded in six municipalities are the centre of all programme activities There the beneficiaries meet and socialise spend the time with their peers in an informal and relaxed atmosphere talking playing social games doing handicrafts watching TV reading the newspapers Apart from the free activities once a week the beneficiaries have the opportunities to depending on their interests organise a special event with the help of the club host Sometimes these are visits of a lawyer or a social worker who give them the advice or provide assistance dealing with specific problems sometimes these are exhibitions showing their handicrafts music nights however outings and sight seeing are the most popular events In the seventh municipality Leskovac instead of a social club there is a centre for legal counselling where four times a week the beneficiaries can obtain the legal assistance Apart form the clubs in all seven municipalities there is a medical space where three times a week the beneficiaries can get the advice of a doctor and a nurse as well as the most needed medicines The doctor also records their needs for glasses or prostheses and directs them to institutions and surgeries which provide these as part of the programme Once a week the medical teams visit the beneficiaries who cannot come to the club due to the illness

    for its activities the aim of the Italian partners was to provide the access to the credit funds for the small and medium agricultural producers through education and training of the local associations of the agricultural producers and the active support of the local authorities and a chosen bank After a one year education and training for the chosen members of the associations which aimed at enabling them technically for the assistance to other members when filing the applications for loans creating a business plan pre selection selection funding and monitoring in the chosen municipalities Svrljig and Sokobanja the guarantee funds were formed The Italian partners provided one third of the total Guarantee Fund for each municipality and granted the funds to the associations while the municipalities and Niska Bank provided the remaining two thirds of the Fund in each municipality In Sokobanja till the end of April 2004 the Association of Agricultural Producers Centre for the Improvement of the Villages in Sokobanja Municipality in cooperation with Sokobanja Municipality and Niska Bank approved 40 loans the average value of which was 45 000 dinars The loans were approved to small agricultural producers for different economic activities goat raising sheep raising

    refugees and IDPs Selova 15 km away from Kursumlija an underdeveloped municipality in the south of Serbia on the administrative border with Kosovo At that time Kursumlija with 23 000 inhabitants offered refuge to internally displaced people IDPs from Kosovo to around 10 000 of them in the first wave Only the most vulnerable got the accommodation in CC Selova the workers barracks of the company which used to build the dam nearby The collective centre is 5 km way from the nearest village where the children from the centre go to school and 15 km away from this small town Having seen the living conditions the isolation of the centre very few opportunities for employment threatened psychological conditions of the beneficiaries as well as very disadvantaged conditions for the normal development of children and youth Pietro after he went back to Italy in cooperation with his organisation provided the funds for the Mediateca Project in this centre The project provided for the rehabilitation of the premises for children and youth which now offer a TV a satellite dish a video a stereo a computer a printer as well as a large number of books magazines video tapes CDs etc
